The Appointment Branch receives proposals from various Ministries/Departments/Union Territories and from certain local bodies under Art.321 of the Constitution, for convening meetings of the DPC to consider selection of officers for promotion in respect of posts mandated under its purview.  DPC meetings are held in UPSC in accordance with the instructions issued by Govt. i.e.  the DOP&T.
